Promote yourself! Possibly the most important marketing and business tool you will ever use.
Good design is so much more than just getting your printing to look attractive.
We take great care to make sure that your print job is as close to perfect as possible, but there are steps you can take to help us help you.
1. FILE FORMAT - PDF Preferred
The PDF file format was designed specifically for the accurate and consistent transfer of information between different computers. We will accept artwork in other file formats such as Microsoft Word, Publisher etc. but there is an increased risk of print errors causing delays and cost overruns with your job.
Adobe Acrobat is the industry standard for creating PDF files but there are other cheap or free alternatives available.
2. FONTS - Embedded, outlined or supplied with file
We require all fonts to be embedded in the PDF. Design software such as Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw will give you that option, other packages may not. If this is not possible you will need to supply us with any fonts used within your artwork when sending us your artwork file. If we have to source the font file ourselves we will have to pass along the expense to you. If needed you can convert the fonts to outlines or curves but this negatively affects print quality.
3. COLOUR - CMYK only
Standard computer monitors and printers cannot be trusted to display colour accurately due to varying tolerances and methods in the manufacturing process.
All artwork must be supplied to us in CMYK. Images from the internet and photos from digital cameras are normally in RGB and will need to be converted to CMYK before sending to us. The conversion between RGB and CMYK is never 100% accurate and some colour changing is to be expected. We can not accept responsibility for such colour shifting - it is better that you take care of this yourselves before submitting the file to us.
The industry standard image manipulation and colour adjustment software is Adobe Photoshop but there are other low priced and free alternatives available.
4. IMAGES - Flattened at 300dpi
For artwork created in Photoshop or similar please flatten it into a single layer and supply as PSD or TIF for maximum quality or JPG for smallest file size. The compression in JPG files can compromise image quality so take care. Images found on the internet (72dpi) are unlikely to be sufficient resolution for best print quality (300dpi ).
A3 or smaller: 300dpi
A1 to A3: 200dpi
Larger than A1: 150dpi
DPI stands for Dots Per Inch
5. BLEED - 2mm on each edge
Most printing equipment can’t print right to the edge of the page. To get around this we print on oversize paper and then trim the job to the final size. Because paper can move slightly during printing and trimming we need spare colour at each edge to cut through to avoid unsightly white edges. This extra colour is called bleed.
We require 2mm bleed on each edge of the job. For example, our standard business card size is 90mm x 55mm. You would need to supply us a file that is 94mm x 59mm, with any images or colour that goes to the edge of the card extending into this 2mm bleed area. Also, it is a good idea to keep text and important graphics 5mm or more from the cut edge.
6. THE LAW - Are you in compliance?
It is your responsibility to ensure that any artwork submitted to us for printing is fair and accurate, is not obscene or libelous, does not infringe copyright, and conforms in entirety to all applicable state and national laws. Using images found from internet searches will likely breach copyright law. Please use a stock image service instead.
Images on Paper (WA) Pty Ltd will not in any way be held responsible for any legal or financial issues arising from artwork/typesetting supplied by a client for printing.
Images on Paper (WA) Pty Ltd reserves the right to refuse to print client supplied artwork that does not comply with these requirements.
